International Day Against Homophobia

The International Day Against Homophobia will try to reach out to everybody regardless of sexual orientation.

Homophobia is an insidious phenomenon that has succeeded in taking hold in a subtle, discreet and often invisible manner. Nobody is really immune from hostile manifestations toward homosexuality. And, surprisingly, some homosexual persons are adopting homophobic behaviour to shield themselves from negative reactions that others might have.

Staying silent means being an accomplice. Homophobia should be denounced each and every time one is a witness to or a victim of homophobic acts or speech. It is a personal, social and civic responsibility to do so.

Direct interventions and demonstrations of disapproval are highly desirable, if one is not in danger. In a critical situation, however, competent authorities should be called.
